Sharing food with others: Keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold

Hosting a party? Serving a buffet?

Keep hot foods hot! Use a chafing dish, warming tray or slow cooker.

Bringing hot food to a party?

Keep the food in insulated thermal containers. Keep these containers closed until it is time to serve.

What about leftovers?

Follow the 2-hour rule with leftovers! Do not let food sit at room temperature for longer than 2 hours. Refrigerate or freeze leftovers within 2 hours after they are removed from heat. If it is hot out (over 90 °F) refrigerate or freeze within 1 hour.
