The list below will help you recognize when your baby is ready for a cup:
- Able to sit up without help. This includes help from a cushion or chair
- Has control over their head
- Holds their head up without help or falling over
- Can pick up and hold objects
- Curves their lips around the rim of the cup
- Has a strong grip.
- Brings their head towards food or cups when adults or older children have them.
If your baby is showing any of these signs, they may be ready for a cup. Even though your baby is ready for a cup, you do not need to stop offering a bottle. It is recommended to wean off the bottle and onto a cup by 15 months old.
