Choose More
Protein foods with healthier (unsaturated) fats:
- Seafood such as salmon, trout, and herring
- Nuts such as almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, and walnuts
- Seeds such as flax seeds, pumpkin, sunflower, and sesame seeds
Protein foods with less fat:
- Chicken or turkey breast
- “Choice” or “select” cuts of beef. Look for cuts of meat that have “round” or “loin”
- Turkey bacon
- Deli meat such as low sodium sliced chicken breast
Limit
Protein foods with saturated fats:
- Bacon
- Deli meat such as salami and pepperoni
- Fried chicken and turkey
- Hot dogs
- “Prime” cuts of steak and roasts with fat you can see
- Sausages
