How can you pack food to eat away from home and keep it cold? Follow the tips below to keep your food safe:

MAKE A PLAN
Use a well-insulated container and a freezable cold pack. This is an easy and safe way to pack your food for when you’re on the go!

HOW TO CHOOSE AN INSULATED CONTAINER
Make sure to check the length of time the container claims to stay cold. Many newer containers include ice packs/cubes/panels that maintain a safe temperature. How long your food will stay at a safe temperature will vary. This depends on the temperature outside the container. The cooler it is outside the container, the longer your food will stay cool enough.

FREEZE ITEMS BEFORE YOU GO
Freezing some of the foods you pack will also help ensure they are safe to eat. Leftover casseroles, smoothies, and even some sandwiches freeze well.

USE ITEMS ON HAND
Even a wet washcloth or sponge placed in a resealable plastic bag and frozen overnight can be used for short periods of time to help keep your foods cold until it’s time to eat them.
