Choose More

Protein foods with healthier (unsaturated) fats:

  • Seafood such as salmon, trout, and herring
  • Nuts such as almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, and walnuts
  • Seeds such as flax seeds, pumpkin, sunflower, and sesame seeds

Protein foods with less fat:

  • Chicken or turkey breast
  • “Choice” or “select” cuts of beef. Look for cuts of meat that have “round” or “loin”
  • Turkey bacon
  • Deli meat such as low sodium sliced chicken breast

Limit

Protein foods with saturated fats:

  • Bacon
  • Deli meat such as salami and pepperoni
  • Fried chicken and turkey
  • Hot dogs
  • “Prime” cuts of steak and roasts with fat you can see
  • Sausages
