Action Plan: Talk to WIC staff about how to find a dentist

This action plan will help you talk with WIC staff about how to find the right dentist.

Step 1: Talk to the staff at your WIC office.

Contact your WIC office to ask for a list of dentists for your child. Your WIC office can give you a list of dentists that see patients your child’s age. You may also find a pediatric dentist through the following websites:

  • AAPD.org, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) website
  • InsureKidsNow.gov, Medicare and Medicaid Services website

Step 2: Contact dentists from the list.

Contact a dental office. Ask them:

  • Whether they accept your insurance (if you have dental insurance)
  • Whether they are accepting new patients
  • Any other questions you have

Step 3: Choose a dentist for your child

Based on the answers you receive, choose a dentist to treat your child.

Step 4: Call for an appointment

After you have chosen a dentist, give them a call. Over the phone, you can schedule your child's appointment.

Step 5: Write it down

Write down the name, office phone number, and emergency phone number of the dentist you choose. Make a note of the time and date of your next appointment. Keep this information in a safe place where you can find it easily. You can store this information on your phone or phone calendar if this is easier.
